He encounters monstrous Swine-creatures emerging from a mysterious pit, experiences visions of cosmic dimensions and otherworldly arenas, and witnesses time itself accelerating toward the end of the universe. This hallucinatory tale influenced H. P. Lovecraft and pioneered modern cosmic horror.
