Hemsöborna
About this book
"Hemsöborna" by August Strindberg is a novel published in 1887. When the enterprising Carlsson arrives at Hemsö to manage a widow's farm, he quickly clashes with her resentful son while transforming the struggling estate. Carlsson's ambitions lead him from courtship rejection to an unexpected marriage with the widow herself, but his roving eye toward the servant girls sets off a chain of events during a harsh winter. Set in the Stockholm archipelago, this raw portrayal of rural life sparked controversy and resulted in Strindberg being banned from the island community.
