"Први Српски Буквар" by Vuk Stefanović Karadžić is a primer published in 1827. This groundbreaking work introduced the first printed Serbian textbook in the vernacular language using reformed Cyrillic script. Created for newly liberated Serbia after centuries of Ottoman rule, it established a phonetic teaching method for literacy instruction. Though initially banned in Serbia due to its linguistic innovations, the primer was used in Montenegro and became foundational to educational practice among Serbs, building upon earlier reforms of the Cyrillic alphabet.
