About this book
"Schelmuffskys wahrhaftige, kuriöse und sehr gefährliche Reisebeschreibung zu Wasser und Lande" by Christian Reuter is a satirical novel published in 1696/97. The work follows Schelmuffsky, a boastful narrator who claims to have traveled the world, visiting Hamburg, Stockholm, Amsterdam, India, and Rome. His grandiose tales of adventure and romance clash hilariously with reality, as his crude behavior and mangled language expose him as a fraud. The novel satirizes both trivial literature and the fashionable gentleman-of-the-world ideal of its time.
