H. P. Lovecraftin vuonna 1928 kirjoittama ”The Dunwich Horror” on kosmista kauhua käsittelevä pienoisromaani. Massachusettsissa sijaitsevassa rappeutuvassa Dunwichin kylässä Wilbur Whateley kasvaa luonnottoman nopeasti velhonoidan isoisänsä avustuksella pimeissä rituaaleissa, jotka liittyvät Yog-Sothoth-nimiseen olentoon. Kun hirviömäinen näkymätön läsnäolo pakenee heidän maatilaltaan ja terrorisoi maaseutua, Miskatonic Universityn kolmen professorin on kohdattava toisesta maailmasta tuleva kauhu, joka ylittää ihmisen käsityskyvyn. Tätä kiellettyä tietoa ja kosmista kauhua käsittelevää kertomusta pidetään Cthulhu-mytoksen keskeisenä tarinana.
