”The Dunwich Horror” av H. P. Lovecraft är en kortroman inom kosmisk skräck, skriven 1928. I den förfallande byn Dunwich i Massachusetts växer Wilbur Whateley i en onaturlig takt, med hjälp av sin trollkarl till morfar i mörka ritualer knutna till väsendet Yog-Sothoth. När en monstruös osynlig närvaro flyr från deras bondgård och sprider skräck över landsbygden måste tre professorer från Miskatonic University konfrontera en övernaturlig fasa som trotsar mänsklig fattningsförmåga. Denna berättelse om förbjuden kunskap och kosmisk skräck betraktas som en central del av Cthulhu-mytos.
