John Ruskin’in «The Stones of Venice, Volume 1 (of 3)» adlı eseri, 1851–1853 arasında yayımlanmış üç ciltlik bir incelemedir. Venedik mimarisinin bu ayrıntılı tetkiki Bizans, Gotik ve Rönesans dönemlerini kapsar, seksenin üzerinde kiliseyi betimler ve kentin genel bir tarihini sunar. Mimari analizin ötesinde Ruskin toplumsal reform düşüncelerini de örer; işçilerin ve düşünürlerin eşit değer gördüğü bir toplum savını ileri sürer. Etkili bu yapıt Gotik Revival mimarisini biçimlendirmiş ve William Morris ile Marcel Proust gibi figürlere esin vermiştir.
