״תולדות שקיעתה וחורבנה של האימפריה הרומית, כרך 02״ מאת אדוארד גיבון הוא חיבור היסטורי שפורסם בין השנים 1776–1789. חיבור היסטורי מונומנטלי זה, בן שישה כרכים, מתחקה אחר הציוויליזציה המערבית משיאה של האימפריה הרומית, דרך הכיבושים האסלאמיים והמונגוליים, ועד לנפילת קונסטנטינופול בשנת 1453. תוך שימוש במקורות ראשוניים, באופן שהיה יוצא דופן בתקופתו, גיבון בוחן את ההתנהגויות וההחלטות שהובילו לשקיעתה של רומא. ניתוחו האירוני והפסימי—ובייחוד השקפותיו השנויות במחלוקת על תפקידו של הנצרות—חולל מהפכה במתודולוגיה ההיסטורית, ובמקביל עורר ויכוח עז הנמשך עד היום.
