«تاريخ انحطاط وسقوط الإمبراطورية الرومانية، المجلد 02» لإدوارد غيبون هو عمل تاريخي نُشر بين عامي 1776 و1789. يتتبع هذا التاريخ الضخم المؤلف من ستة مجلدات الحضارة الغربية منذ أوج الإمبراطورية الرومانية، مرورًا بالفتوحات الإسلامية والمغولية، وصولًا إلى سقوط القسطنطينية عام 1453. وباستخدامه المصادر الأولية على نحو غير مألوف في عصره، يفحص غيبون السلوكيات والقرارات التي أدت إلى انحطاط روما. وقد أحدث تحليله الساخر والمتشائم—ولا سيما آراؤه المثيرة للجدل بشأن دور المسيحية—ثورة في منهجية كتابة التاريخ، بينما أشعل في الوقت نفسه جدلًا حادًا مستمرًا حتى اليوم.
