Edvard Gibbonning “Storia della decadenza e rovina dell'impero romano, volume 06” asari 1776–1789-yillarda nashr etilgan tarixiy asarning oltinchi jildidir. Ushbu monumental turkum G‘arb sivilizatsiyasining Rim imperiyasi gullab-yashnagan davridan tortib, islomiy va mo‘g‘ul istilolari orqali 1453-yilda Konstantinopolning qulashigacha bo‘lgan tarixini yoritadi. Gibbon o‘z davri uchun kam uchraydigan birlamchi manbalardan foydalanib, Rimning tanazzuliga olib kelgan xatti-harakatlar va qarorlarni tahlil qiladi. Uning metodologiyasi Gibbonni qadimgi Rimning ilk zamonaviy tarixchisi sifatida tanitdi, biroq ruhoniylarga qarshi nuqtayi nazari va vizantiyaliklarga nisbatan keskin hukmlari jiddiy bahs-munozaralarga sabab bo‘ldi.
