“History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire — Volume 6” van Edward Gibbon is een historisch werk dat in 1788 werd gepubliceerd. Dit zesde en laatste deel voltooit Gibbons monumentale onderzoek naar de ondergang van het Romeinse Rijk. Het werk volgt de gebeurtenissen vanaf de bloeitijd van Rome tot aan de val van Byzantium en onderzoekt hoe barbaarse invasies, de opkomst van het christendom en het verlies van burgerlijke deugd tot de achteruitgang van het rijk leidden. Gibbons afstandelijke maar kritische stijl leidde tot een blijvende controverse over de rol van het christendom in het lot van Rome, hoewel zijn centrale these door moderne geleerden nog steeds wordt betwist.
