"The Public and Its Problems" מאת ג'ון דיואי הוא חיבור בפילוסופיה פוליטית שפורסם ב־1927. בתגובה למבקרים שדחו את הדמוקרטיה כבלתי מעשית בעולם מודרני שהולך ומסתבך, מגן דיואי על המשטר הדמוקרטי תוך שהוא מכיר בפגמיו. הוא דוחה שלטון של אליטות טכנוקרטיות, וטוען במקום זאת שהדמוקרטיה דורשת מעורבות ציבורית מתמדת וערנות כדי להצליח. הספר מגדיר מחדש מה הם "הציבור" ו"המדינה", ובוחן כיצד דמוקרטיה אמיתית יכולה לשרוד בתוך התמורות הטכנולוגיות והחברתיות של המאה העשרים.
